Sun Poppies

Spring has sprung and so far it's looking like 2019 will be a great year for desert wildflowers. Right now it would be hard to find a place with more Lupins and Mexican Goldpoppies than the Bartlett Lake area, about 15 miles east of Carefree on the Tonto National Forest. Many flowers can be seen right along Bartlett Dam Road but if you're willing to hike a bit you can find even better displays in the distant hillsides. Just look for the hills that appear orange and head that way!
