In 1937, what is now Tucson's Oracle Road from Miracle Mile to Drachman was the first divided highway in Arizona, with roundabouts at both ends. Because of the wide medians, it was considered to be very safe and was called the Miracle Mile of Safety by Arizona Highways. In recent years the road was reconfigured and the roundabouts taken out and public art added. A giant neon sculpture designed by Dick Arnold is located in the median. This photo shows the northbound side which says Miracle Mile to reclaim the name "Miracle Mile". The southbound side says Tucson as Oracle Road is the gateway into downtown Tucson.
