Along FR 417
The portion of FR 417 we drove along this day was the widest and best-maintained forest road I've seen in Arizona! As one travels through the state it's astonishing how significantly the biome changes.
Chapel of the Holy Dove
This beautiful dirt-floor primitive church located north of Flagstaff on Fort Valley Ranch Road (sometimes designated as "San Francisco Peaks Scenic Road" or part of U.S. Route 180) provides a fantastic view of the forest out the windows behind the lectern. It must be challenging keeping the attendees attention!
McDowell Mountains at sunset
Some days the sunset in the desert is merely beautiful, some days (like this) it is amazing. On my drive home I saw the possibility for amazing light so I hurried to get my gear to be set up when this moment happened. This is a crop from a ~92 Megapixel stitched panorama of 25 images. I took another set of the same scene two minutes later and the amazing light had already passed.
Snowfall along US 180
Shortly after the first snowfall of the 2012 season, we decided to explore the area around Flagstaff and started out along US 180. We saw less than 10 people in our drive out and back.
